How to solve the following equations?

1. A farmers daughter wishes to fence in a rectangular poultry yard. She has 200 meters of fencing and wants to enclose the maximum area. What should be the dimensions of the yard so that the enclosed region has a maximum area?

2. A rectangular turtle pen is 6 feet long by 4 feet wide. The pen is enlarged by increasing the length and width by an equal amount in order to double its area. What are the dimensions of the new pen?

Please show all the work, answers are really appreciated :)

1. She has 200 meters of fencing so divide 200 by 4 (the amount of sides) and you get 50. 50 x 50 is 2500 meters for the area. It is a square if that is okay. If not, the greatest rectangular area would be a rectangle that is 60 x 40.

2. 6 x 4 has an area of 24 feet. To double that area multiply 24 by 2 which gives you 48. Increase the length and width by 2 to give you 8 x 6 which is 48.

The best method is just guess and check mostly and use some logic also.
