I'm wondering what the lyrics for Auld Lang Syne are and the traditions behind it. Is it just a festive song or can it be sang all year round? And when is the right time to sing it? Thanks for your help.

Why is the UVa fightsong the same as Auld Lang Syne?

If you listen to the tune of the University of Virginia fight song (the Good Ol' Song) and the tune of the traditional New Year song (Auld Lang Syne), they are the same. Is this intentional? What is the story behind this?
