Mary asks…

Can someone tell me what this traditional New Years song means?

The song that is so famous for New Years, Auld Lang Syne.
The first line is Should old aquaintence be forgot .. does that mean your supposed to forget all the people in your life that you've met during the year? That doesn't sound like a nice thing to do.

admin answers:

The song begins by posing a rhetorical question as to whether it is right that old times be forgotten, and is generally interpreted as a call to remember (not to forget) long-standing friendships.
