New York Times Chris Cuomo Leaving 'Good Morning America' ABC News After three years with Good Morning America, news anchor Chris Cuomo announced this morning that will leave the morning show.

Chris Cuomo announced Thursday that, like Diane Sawyer, Friday would be his last day on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"I am leaving my position as news anchor tomorrow," Cuomo told viewers. "I am blessed to be at 'GMA,' I thank all of you. Now I have been asked to anchor '20/20' with my friend, the great Elizabeth Vargas, and also to cover breaking news and get answers for all the shows on the network. It is a dream job for a journalist like me, but it was also a very difficult decision, because I am leaving a special place and crew and all of you and you are all part of my family. The good news is you never really leave family," he said, promising "GMA" viewers that they'll see his "mug" on the show in the future.

ABC is said to be in negotiations with Mr. Cuomo about a new position. He could become the co-anchor of the Friday night newsmagazine “20/20.” The program is currently anchored by Elizabeth Vargas. If he stays at ABC, Mr. Cuomo, the son of Mario Cuomo, the former governor of New York, would also flex his reporting muscles more often.
