Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Singapore, His Excellency Ambassador Holger Standertsköjld, and NTU Provost, Professor Bertil Andersson, officiated at the opening of Discover Europe, which was attended by about 800 students and faculty members.
'We are proud to host Discover Europe,' said Professor Andersson. 'The collaboration with the Delegation of the European Commission to Singapore complements NTU's drive to become a great global university. Discover Europe provides NTU with a platform to showcase some of our research collaboration with the EU Member States and corporations.
This will strengthen our position as a premier global campus for science and technology. The Discover Europe event is a great learning opportunity, not just for students, faculty and staff at NTU, but indeed, for the university community in Singapore as they get to engage EU diplomats and business leaders in discussions.'
Discover Europe also featured an exhibition by several cultural, educational and research centres of the EU Member States. Visitors had the chance to interact with these exhibitors to find out more about cultural and educational opportunities, language courses, and travel information in Europe.

Bear Killed kelly ann walz
According to Lehigh Valley Live, Tim Conway, the game commission’s information educational supervisor for the northeast region, said Walz went inside the bear’s 15-by-15-foot steel and concrete cage to clean it and feed the bear. Officials said while she was inside, the 350-pound bear turned on Walz and killed her. Initial reports indicate a neighbor shot the bear while it was on top of Walz.
Conway said the bear had been kept as a pet since 2000 when the owners applied for a license. This was no a free-roaming bear that attacked the woman. She also had a Bengal tiger and an African lion at the home. Both animals were licensed by the state to be kept as pets.
According to reports, Kelly Ann Walz threw some dog food to one side of the steel and concrete cage she kept near her house to distract her 350-pound black bear in order to clean the cage.
Authorities said the animal turned on the 37-year-old woman, who also owned a Bengal tiger and an African lion, and killed her.
